Corruption is closely related to mafia activity, and where corruption thrives, democracy doesn't work - it's as simple as that. In a democracy, you can’t have a public administration where money can annul the law.

Looking around the world, it is evident that the most stable democracies are also the countries that have managed to combat corruption or who have simply never had a widespread tradition of it; for example, in the Scandinavian countries.
